Criteria for Determining end of year awards

Most improved student award- By grade: Kndg-5, 6-7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12

Students receiving this award must:

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude
  • Demonstrate academic growth
  • Be punctual and maintain regular attendance
  • Must meet assignment deadlines
  • Must complete homework
Pride in School- by grade: Kndg-5, 6-7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12

Students receiving this award must:

  • Display a positive attitude throughout the day
  • Must wear their uniform proudly and uniform must meet the standard
  • Show enthusiasm
  • Participate in all activities
 Student of the year- Elementary – one in Kndg. to grade 6,  grade 7 & grade 8

Students receiving this award must have an academic average above 80% using the following subjects; Language, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and French. The average will include both January and June results. No award will be given if the average is not above 80%.

Student of the Year- Secondary- one in each grades 9, 10, 11 & 12

Students receiving this award must have an academic average above 80% using the 10 courses studied in that academic year. No award will be given if the average is not above 80%.

Subject Awards Elementary – By grade: 1, 3-5, 6-7, 8, 9, 10

Students receiving these subject awards must:

  • Display an aptitude for the subject
  • Achieve academic excellence in the subject
  • Show positive peer support and acceptance (where applicable)
  • Display respect for equipment and materials (where applicable)

Subject Awards include: Physical Education, Music, Drama and Art.

Subject Awards- Secondary Grade 12 (Grade 11 when deemed appropriate)

Students receiving these awards must have the highest grade in the class. It may be awarded to either a grade 11 or grade 12 student. The grades used will be from the current academic year only. (Art, Science, Business, English, Mathematics, Social Science, Hospitality and Tourism)

Service to community Award(s)

Students receiving these awards must be graduating. These awards recognize on-going community service. In addition to completing their 40 hours of service, students must engage in community service activities throughout their senior years.

Social Responsibility Award

One award will be given to deserving students in grade 10, 11, and 12. This award is voted in by the students. Students receiving this award must:

  • Show tolerance and acceptance of others
  • Promote understanding and add to positive atmosphere to the school
  • Resolve issues maturely
  • Pursue a variety of interests (sports, clubs and leadership)
  • Be respected by peers
  • Be respected and appreciated by teachers
  • Promote healthy relationship among peers and teachers
  • Engage in community service
  • Be viewed as a class leader
Principal’s Award

One award will be given to a deserving graduate. A student receiving this award must:

  • Maintain an academic average of over 80%
  • Demonstrate leadership within the school
  • Participate in school activities
  • Complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service
  • Have an unblemished school record
  • Attend classes on a regular basis
  • Show respect for self, peers and staff
  • Show pride in school
Valedictorian Award

This award is voted on by students and staff. It is not a popularity contest as the criteria below must be presented to the students prior to voting. The Valedictorian must:

  • Represent the best of the student body
  • Demonstrate respect and tolerance for self and others
  • Provide assistance to his or her peers
  • Be viewed as a leader
  • Strive for excellence
  • Resolve issues in a mature manner
